Renewables

Horizons Energy combines the analytical strength of the EnCompass Power Planning model with the market representation of the Horizons Energy Database (HED) to evaluate the operational and capital economics of renewable projects.

Within HED, Horizons Energy maintains a database of grid-connected solar, wind and battery resources in North America, including hourly profiles by market area. In addition, we maintain a forward view of renewable and conventional technologies as well as Behind-The-Meter (BTM) generation.

Through our work with the Horizons Advisory service, we evaluate the:

  • Economics of utility scale battery projects, including contributions to ancillary services and the impacts of cycling on battery life
  • Benefits and costs of combinations of solar, wind and battery projects
  • Impact of varying levels of renewable penetration on resource adequacy and market prices
